We do not just give aid, we empower our beneficiaries until they become donors themselves. We have been providing aid for vulnerable children and women, victims of disasters (eg Covid-19, etc) living in hard-to-reach rural communities that we operate in. We are involved in community development; impact communities by leveraging community philanthropy principles….
We build asset
Irrespective of socio-economic statuses, we believe that everyone has some levels of wealth that could be shared for the common good.
We support self empowerment. We promote community empowerment. Example, during the school (Beacon of Light International Schools) building project by Phos Aid International, the community donated their land (which is a form of wealth). Many of the village elders contributed financially according to their capacities. The young people volunteered to fetch water from the nearest dam for the construction whereas the women prepared local meals for the laborers. This approach gave every stakeholder some power, and a sense of co-ownership and responsibility.
We promote capacity development
Our flagship school, Beacon of Light International Schools, as a citadel of learning, is a center for acquiring new knowledge and character. A set of transformations is generated
and sustained. A new mindset; a new ability is nurtured among the pupils. The educated children will grow with a set of refined instincts, ideologies and empowerment to think and
create solutions.
We organize health and empowerment programmes for the youths, women and children in the community. We evaluate unhealthy practices and norms, and partner with community leaders to make positive polices, including releasing children of school age for enrollment into our school, stopping child labour, banning of fake/substandard drug distributions within the community, adopting the standard healthcare practices of visiting hospitals in the neighboring communities in contrast to their harmful local therapies.
We provided financial aid to Mr Abubakar Mohammed, who could not fend for himself. Through the financial empowerment package, he started a ram selling business. Mr Abubakar’s business grew big enough to support his family and other needy people in his community.
We build trust
We build trust in the communities we partner with by involving our local partners in key decision making processes. We collaborate with the village elders
and stakeholders for insights and local support. In our school, for instance, we employed local residents as staff, and as part of the administrative staff.
